Man rescued in Comeragh Mountains but escapes injury


A cliff walker who got into difficulty on a cliff above Mahon Falls was winched to safety this afternoon in an operation involving the Coast Guards Rescue 115 Helicopter from Shannon and the South East Mountain Rescue Association the Gardai and the MRCC . 

GardaĆ­ alerted the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association and the Irish Cast Guard to assist the walker who became crag fast.

The Coast Guard’s R115 was guided to the location by the SEMRA and began to winch the person from the cliff to lower ground where he was attended to by South Eastern Mountain Rescue. He was uninjured in the incident.

Conditions at the time were very mixed with sunshine, showers of hail and thunder in the distance.

At the time of the rescue the Coast Guards Rescue 117 Helicopter at Waterford Airport was out of commission due to a service on the craft.
