Snorkeler dies after getting into difficulty at Ardmore


One person has died after getting into trouble in the water at Ardmore in County Waterford this evening.

Two snorkelers were in the water before 6pm but one made it ashore and the emergency services were called to help search for the second person.

The crew of the Coast Guard Rescue 117 Helicopter based at Waterford Regional Airport were quickly at the scene and airlifted the casualty on board.

CPR was carried aboard the helicopter but efforts to revive the casualty were unsuccessful.

The casualty was transferred to Waterford University Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
