One person believed to be a
teenager has died after an attempted raid on the home of a senior garda in Dungarvan,
Co. Waterford overnight.
Details are still sketchy, but it is understood the
deceased person was one of a small group of between two or four who attacked
the home of a top ranking Garda in Dungarvan.
The garda was stabbed and may have hit his head off
a bottle after he was alerted to a noise heard outside by another person in the
house after he went look outside the house. The Garda was removed to hospital
where he is being treated for his injuries which are not thought to be
life-threatening.
The raiders fled the scene on foot. That person has
died, after he fell on an unknown object. He was found by Gardai in Marshland
close to the Clonea Road.
A man-hunt is reported to have taken place after
midnight with a coastguard helicopter based at Waterford Regional Airport hovering
over the Abbeyside area for up to 45 minutes.
The Garda Ombudsman has been contacted about the
incident and that a senior investigation team has arrived on the scene.
Three others have been arrested in connection with
the attempted break in.
