Gardai have upgraded their investigations in
the death of a 90 year old County Waterford man to that of murder.
Paddy Lyons from Ballysaggart near Lismore was
found slumped in a chair at his house on Saturday evening when a neighbour called
to check on him about 5pm. He was last seen alive 24 hours earlier.
Following the results of a post mortem
carried out on his body Gardai have upgraded their investigations to that of
murder.
The results of the post mortem have not being
made public for operation reasons but it is believed that the deceased had a
number of marks on his body.
The scene around his house is still sealed
off as Gardai continue to examine the area.
Speaking to the press today, Superintendent
Mick Lacey, based at Dungarvan Garda Station, said “we are seeking the public’s
assistance locally and in the wider community who have any information in
relation to this investigation to come forward”.
GardaĆ say they are looking for two people, a
man and a woman, who raised the alarm at a house in the area at around 4.30pm
on Saturday.
The deceased man was well known in the
Ballysaggart and Lismore areas and had regular visitors to his home. Gardai have
called on anyone who may have any information that can help them in their
investigations to contact them at Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600 or the
Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or at any Garda station.
