Gardai in
Dungarvan are investigating the circumstances surrounding the finding of the
body of an elderly man yesterday evening.
The discovery of
the body of a 90 year old man was made at a house in the Ballysaggart area near
Lismore.
Gardai were called
to the scene shortly after 5pm on Saturday evening. The man was pronounced dead
shortly after Gardai arrived and the State Pathologist was notified. Assistance
from the Garda Technical Bureau was also sought.
The body remained
at the scene overnight and the scene was preserved and a preliminary
examination took place today. The body has since being brought to University
Hospital Waterford for a full post mortem.
The course that
Gardai will take will be determined by the outcome of a post mortem.
The man is named
locally as Paddy Lyons. Mr. Lyons lived alone and it is understood that his
body was discovered by a neighbour who was his home help.

Dungarvan have appealed to anyone who may have information or who saw anything
suspicious in the area over the weekend to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on
058 48600 or any Garda Station.
